I’m Steve Trash, and I’m super glad you’re here.
I’ve spent my entire 40-year career as an entertainer, creating magic tricks with eco-themes.
I’ve kept that career action-packed, finding multiple ways to further my vision of helping save the planet: I make music on recycled instruments like Cigar Box Guitars, I created my TV show, Steve Trash Science on PBS, I have written books including The Magic of Ecology, and I’ve now founded this magic academy that teaches kids self-confidence, communication skills, and character lessons.
Anything that I feel needs to be manifest in the world is fair game for me.
I LOVE to create. As one of my young magic students recently expressed it, creating is “my jam.”
At the heart of it all, I’m an artist, but I’ve always tried to be an inspirer and an educator, too. I’m constantly inspired by great educators I know and have known; my mom was one of those, an excellent high school special-education teacher for 30 years. I’ve always felt I was as much an educator as an entertainer.
The entertainment side of my life has value, but deep down at my core, education is my heart and where I find my true value to the world. I’m always trying to put that to work in some way.
My career has been a long journey to combine entertainment with education. Some have called this “edu-tainment” … Actually, that word was created by a publicist I hired. I hated that made-up word even back then. It’s really more like “entertainment with soul.”
I want the things I create to mean something.
Attempting to share fun, inspiration, and love through show business can be super challenging at times. I’ve crashed into some thick, solid walls, and I’ve definitely learned a thing or two along the way.
That’s the reason for this blog. I’d like to share some thoughts here to inspire you, get you thinking, get you fired up, give you a new perspective, and maybe even help you get back up when you get knocked down.
