MAGIC CAMP – What’s our MISSION?
My goal at the Alabama Academy of Magic (and all the MAGIC CAMPS we create) is to use magic lessons, games, and fun to grow kids’ self-confidence, improve communication skills, and even develop better empathy within kids.
This probably sounds like BS marketing (and it is… but only kind of).
Only kind of, because I truly believe we CAN do this… well… you and I can do it… together.
I’m ALSO attempting to build a “magic crew” of folks that will take this “mission” to kids across Alabama.
If you are chosen, you become the arms and legs and heads and hearts of this thing I call the Alabama Academy of Magic, and the impact of the work we’re doing could be something really powerful.
The world doesn’t need more magicians.
The world needs more folks with self-worth, self-confidence, greater empathy for others, and the ability to communicate more effectively.
Magic Camp can do this very effectively because magic tricks have this BUILT-IN ability to foster everything we want our kids to learn.

MAGIC CAMP – What ages are the kids?
Steve Trash Magic Camp is open to kids 8-12 years old.
MAGIC CAMP – open to 8-12 year olds.
HOW LONG IS MAGIC CAMP?
Magic Camps always take place in the summer (July)
Roughly – 8am-Noon.
Camps are almost always (4) four days long.
WHAT’S MY PAY FOR WORKING AS A CREW MEMBER ON MAGIC CAMP?
$100 for the week (mornings – 4 days only).
WHAT MUST I DO TO GET PAID?
1. Learn the tricks
2. Watch the THREE (very short) videos below.
2. Come to – PICNIC – TRAINING DAY.
3. Come have a blast with our amazing magic camp kids for – 4 WHOLE DAYS IN A ROW.
WHAT ARE THE MONEY RULES?
1. You are not an employee.
2. You are an independent contractor (you are responsible for your own taxes).
3. I will write you a check for $100 at the end of the week.
WHAT ARE MY MAGIC CAMP – RESPONSIBILITIES?
1. Learn – all – the magic tricks we’ll be performing and teaching WELL WELL WELL in advance of the camp week (which is usually July).
2. Be – EARLY – to camp – EVERY – single day.
3. Do – NOT – miss any day of camp.
4. Make sure your “I TEACH MAGIC” shirt is clean and you look like a pro each day.
HOW DO I LEARN THE MAGIC TRICKS?
Here’s the process you will use for learning MAGIC TRICKS for our Magic Camps.
1. Watch the video explanation of each magic trick online at the DiscoverMagic.com site (we’ll provide the access codes for you).
2. Come to TRAINING DAY (usually a Saturday and you’ll get to work with the magic props on that day).
3. Practice performing these NEW TRICKS (you’ll take home the tricks) on your own.
4. Teach a couple of kids these NEW TRICKS on your own. EACH TIME you teach the trick you will understand it better AND MOST IMPORTANTLY you’ll be better at teaching it.
5. If you decide NOT to be a MAGIC CAMP counselor or are unable to be a counselor, or I’m unable to hire you, please return the MAGIC TRICKS.
THE 3 – VERY SHORT – MAGIC CAMP CREW – VIDEOS

- MAGIC CREW – WHAT IS YOUR JOB – please watch this video (it’s only 90 seconds long video) at least once. Several times is really better!

JOB 1 – HAVE FUN.
JOB 2 – KEEP THE KIDS SAFE.

2. MAGIC CAMP – EACH DAY MUST CONTAIN – This video is 70 seconds long. Please watch this video at least once. Several times is even better.
EACH DAY MUST CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING 3 ELEMENTS
1. CHARACTER: WATCH ONE VIDEO + REVIEW: 8 TRAITS + REVIEW: 3 RULES
2. MAGIC: TEACH – OR – PERFORM – at least – two magic tricks – sometimes more… sometimes less… check the outline
3. GAMES: PLAY 3 GAMES = DANGER DICE + HOT WANDS + NEW GAME – sometimes you’ll even play three games… check the outline.
No matter what happens – THE SHOW MUST GO ON – be a pro and just get it done.
3. MAGIC CAMP – 13 STEPS OF TEACHING MAGIC – this video is 90 seconds long. Please watch this video at least once, several times is better.
